Courses & Workshops

TESTIMONIAL
Maggie provided a workplace wellbeing presentation to myself and our team of Solicitors at JW O’Donovan recently. Maggie’s excellent communication skills and valuable advice about the power of taking a pause before responding to people and situations, and how listening is as much if not more important than talking, were appreciated by all . Great positive feedback , particularly from the junior team members . Maggie’s history of self employment in the legal profession coupled with juggling domestic and childcare responsibilities meant that many of us could readily identify with her honest approach and helpful coping suggestions . Thank you Maggie, would highly recommend your services.

Workplace Wellbeing

I love to work with my former solicitor colleagues, employers and employees to enhance their relationships with themselves, their team, their clients and the overall wellbeing within a company. This enhancement boosts performance on all levels. Working as a solicitor dealing with employment law I quickly learned that so often at the root of many employment law issues is poor or non-existent communication. On many occasions I successfully encouraged and facilitated communication rather than litigation by way of resolution.

I offer workplace workshops and courses focusing on developing communication skills for all individuals in a workplace. A clear flow of open communication is essential to any workplace and my workshops and courses help to improve this flow. They also aid with facing conflict by learning how to engage in courageous conversations. I can bring these workshops and courses into your organisation and work with you in-house.

Many people who have completed my parenting courses (see below) report how it has helped them greatly in every area of their lives and in particular in their working lives. We bring our learned behaviours with us everywhere from home to work and out into the world.

The tools and qualities needed to be a conscious parent are those same tools and qualities need to be a conscious leader in the workplace. Just as parents are the family architects, leaders in business are the workplace architects. How is overall wellbeing in your workplace?

Parenting of Self & Children

This course is designed to provide parents with the fundamentals of how to parent themselves and how to effectively parent their children.  The reality is that many parents come into the responsible and complex role of parenting with emotional trauma.  The extent and endurance of such emotional trauma will have a telling effect on how they parent themselves and their children.  We can only parent our children to the extent that we ourselves have been parented. If as parents we have not resolved our own history of insecure attachment or trauma as a child then it becomes extremely difficult to establish and maintain a secure bond with our children. The aim of the course is to help parents identify the blocks to their own relationship with self and with their children.  These blocks manifest themselves in defensive behavioural patterns and the task is to identify what aspects of a parent’s self lies hidden behind these defensive patterns.  Similarly, when children exhibit challenging (defensive) behaviours, the goal is to detect what needs of the child are not being seen and not being met. We pass down trauma from one generation to another and problematic interpersonal behaviours are communicated in verbal and non verbal interactions with our children. This eight week course can be delivered to an individual, a couple or a group and it can be the beginning of the breaking of the cycle.

Tuning In

Mindfulness for Children

“Tuning In” is a mindfulness course for children in primary schools.   The course is an adaption for children of the MBSR eight week programme and is a wonderful way to help children to learn the skill of mindful awareness which really can help them in their daily lives to manage the difficulties they encounter with gentleness and kindness.  This is indeed a loving gift that we can offer them.

Research tells us that the very structure of the brain develops in response to our experiences, and this development is very rapid in early childhood and adolescence so the experiences we are exposed to then help literally to shape the brain.  In this course the children learn about the brain and about making new choices.  They will learn how to deal with difficulty and about mindful wellbeing.  They will also learn to cultivate attitudes of acceptance (seeing things as they are), trust, non- striving or letting go, non-judgement, patience, gratitude and simply doing the best that they can.  It is beautiful and powerful.

I am really passionate about getting this course into as many schools as possible and also to bringing it to parents and children together so that they can share this amazing gift and tune in together, to themselves and to each other.
